10 onions, thinly sliced
4 tablespoons margarine
4 tablespoons olive oil
1tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon nutmeg
8 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
3/4 cup dry red wine
Heat margarine and oil in large stockpot. Sauté onions over low heat until soft. Add sugar and nutmeg and continue to sauté until caramelized. Add beef broth, salt and pepper; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add wine and simmer for another 10 minutes.
